TRG’s hiring process typically involves several steps, including resume reviews, individual and group interviews, and facilitated demonstration sessions with TRG staff.   We feel that this cautious and deliberate approach helps to ensure that there is a good match between the candidate and the organization, and that trainer/OD consultants joining TRG have the range of skills and experience they will need to work effectively with our clients. 

 What we really look for

Not long ago, a few of us considered the question, “Beyond work experience and academic qualifications, what do we really look for in individuals applying to join our firm?”  We realize that some of this can only be discovered by working together over time, but we thought it might be helpful information for those thinking of submitting an application:

• Extraordinary facilitation skills.  Extreme comfort, confidence, and effectiveness in working with diverse client groups in a broad variety of settings, both domestic and international. 

• Ability to listen, absorb, and synthesize, either orally or in writing, the key themes from data gathered in interviews, background documents, and group discussions.

• Flexibility to access and adopt an approach which helps the client to address key themes and achieve its desired results.

• Interest and ability in building lasting relationships with clients and colleagues – a natural “connector” who sustains work opportunities for themselves and others by making a real difference.

• Genuine and demonstrated curiosity about our craft (training and organizational development) and how it can contribute to our clients’ success. 

• Accomplished practitioner eager to apply and adapt published models to our clients’ challenges.

• Naturally curious about our clients – their work, their world, their technical dilemmas, and what keeps them up at night.

• Interest in and ability to quickly learn the technical language, key issues, and culture of another organization.

• Entrepreneur – interested in developing business and in being an owner, manager, and contributor to a small company.

• A team player – the drive and capacity to develop and share best practices, collaborate on internal and external projects, and give and receive feedback to support the success of colleagues.
