  1. Systems for Managing Organizational Knowledge by M. Alavi - This paper explains the importance of knowledge and knowledge management in today's organizations.  Alavi presents a framework for describing the key organizational knowledge management processes as well as the role of knowledge management systems in support of the processes discussed.
  2. Knowledge Management Workshop Beyond Theory: Experiences and Opportunities of the CGIAR Centers - In April, 2000, sixteen Knowledge Management Champions from around the CG System, as well as a representative from FAO and the Director of the CG Secretariat gathered in Alexandria, Virginia to discuss methods for turning KM theory into practice.  This report presents the outcomes from this groundbreaking workshop.
  3. A Synopsis of "Working Knowledge" by Larry Prusak and Thomas Davenport - Offers insight into the development and management of knowledge systems. This synopsis addresses the hard and soft concepts of knowledge management as well as the importance of organizational culture.  The authors introduce vocabulary and concepts necessary for successfully understanding knowledge management.
  4. Valuing Intellectual Capital by Ian Rose - This report contains the findings of a study commissioned by six major U.S. corporations - EDS, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, US West and Warner-Lambert, along with the University of Warwick in England and Unlived in the Netherlands. The purpose of the study was to determine how organizations have cultivated, managed and fully utilized their intellectual capital, so as to derive maximum benefit from their knowledge assets.
  5. Knowledge Audit Synopsis - A slide presentation given to the CGIAR by J. Liebowitz, Professor of Information Systems. Using examples from various corporations, Prof. Liebowitz, covers what a knowledge audit is, the value of an audit, and why each organizations should conduct one. This presentation informs on the complete knowledge management process and what one needs to consider to do it properly.
