CONNECTING PEOPLE

AND PERFORMANCE

Developing Leadership and Management

Not long ago, employees with management potential would move up "through the ranks" over a period of time, taking special assignments, getting increasingly more responsible positions, and probably having a special mentor along the way. Finally, a person would arrive at a position of leadership in the organization. It was often a very evolutionary process. Times are different -- individuals often find themselves thrust into positions of leadership and management with little or no prior preparation. Even when there has been opportunity for preparation, the environment and challenges are qualitatively different.

TRG has been creating programs that build leadership and management skills for over fifteen years. Typically such a program can involve activities like:

  • Identifying leadership and management competencies required in the client organization.
  • Developing multi-source (360™ feedback) instruments based upon the competencies and administering it to participants in the leadership program.
  • Designing learning activities that integrate an action learning approach and experiential methods to utilize real work in the training to make it especially relevant. Integrating current research and thinking on leadership/management into the curriculum.
  • Building the skills of a critical mass of leaders and/or managers within the organization to provide a natural support network for desired organizational change, and incorporating the participants' own supervisors into the support network to encourage continued learning.
  • Reinforcing learning through follow-up sessions, individual coaching, and self-study resources.
