Wende DuFlon joined TRG in 2018 as the Communications Knowledge Management (CKM) Specialist on the USAID CEL- Communications Evidence and Learning project. Her role is to manage the CKM team to ensure that the integration of evidence, communications and learning is strategic and productive. This new role with TRG brings Wende back to the U.S. after three decades in Latin America and the Caribbean as an international development professional. Passionate about social and earth justice, Wende began her professional career in social marketing for change in reproductive health and HIV prevention in 13 countries. During this time, Wende worked in the functional areas of evidence-based strategic planning, strategic communications development, education policy reform, communications materials design and training curriculum design for clients including: Population Council, Interamerican Development Bank, World Bank, CARE, UNICEF, Save the Children, Catholic Relief Services and USAID. During Wende’s tenure with USAID Guatemala as an Education Officer and Development Outreach and Communications Specialist, Wende grew her development experience in post-conflict contexts, indigenous people’s rights, gender and youth, food security, migration, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and reconstruction.
Wende’s academic background includes a B.A. from Hampshire College in Cultural Anthropology and a ScM in Demography/Population Dynamics from Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health. Wende is a master-level Reiki practitioner, a life coach, haiku poet, creator of stone beaded jewelry and is in the early stages of writing a novel. Her volunteer work in communities includes rural libraries, nutrition and family planning counseling, voter registration and indigenous rights advocacy. She relishes travel, hiking in nature, distance swimming, beginner’s kayaking, photography and most of all, spending hygge time with family and lifelong friends.
